Green Juices & Smoothies

Your Healthy Choices

Green vegetable juices are the back bone of the nutritional regimes that I encourage people to follow. See recipe here.

Juicing allows essential low sugar nutrients to pass quickly and efficiently into our blood stream, helping to increase alkalinity and detoxification. It does however remove the fibre from the vegetables. Occasionally making green smoothies or raw soups in a blender is quick, easy and filling. Using predominantly green foods means that the smoothie is rich in chlorophyll, minerals, phyto-nutrients and has a low glaecemic (sugar) load. See recipe here.

In order for nutrients to be digested, the food containing them needs to be “broken down”. Chewing is a vital part of this process. A speedy and efficient alternative to hours at the table is to make nutritious salads “in the blender”. The result is a delicious snack or meal. Using predominantly green foods means that the smoothy is rich in chlorophyll, minerals, phyto-nutrients and has a low glaecemic load.

Juicers

The most efficient machines are twin gear juicers, but they are big, expensive and quite complicated to dismantle, clean and re-assemble. With this in mind I recommend single auger machines.

These are efficient with dark leafy greens and other produce. They take up relatively little space on the counter top and can be cleaned quickly and efficiently.

The juice machine that we currently recommend is the Sana EUJ 606. It’s US equivalent (the Omega NC800) has been voted ‘best in class’ by US juicing expert John Kohler.

Horizontal juicers produce less waste than vertical models and are easy to clean.
